Mission
At the dawn of the New Millennium, beloved Pope John Paul II called for a New Evangelization - "new in ardor, methods and expression" - so that all people might have a life transforming encounter with the living God.
Responding to the call for a New Evangelization, the Illinois Catholic Prayer Breakfast invites Catholics throughout the State to gather as one to thank God for the blessings he has bestowed on our country, to reaffirm our faith and promote the teachings of the Catholic Church, pray for our nation and its leaders, and give glory and honor to God as a visible witness to our culture.
The Illinois Catholic Prayer Breakfast is an affiliate of the hugely successful National Catholic Prayer Breakfast begun in 2004. Since that historic event, the spark has caught fire and Catholic Prayer Breakfasts are being organized throughout the country and even around the world. Originally conceived along a format that allows families, priests and religious, and business people to attend in the morning without significantly disrupting their day, the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast has responded to the overwhelming enthusiasm of the participants and has grown to become a three-day event filled with the vitality of the Faith.
Modeled on the first National Prayer Breakfast, the Illinois Catholic Prayer Breakfast offers a morning program intended to permit all people to attend and not significantly disrupt their day. The program seeks to be powerfully edifying and enriching to the participants and the hope is that the event will draw participants from every Illinois dioceses (Bellville, Springfield, Peoria, Rockford, Joliet and Chicago) and the uniate churches (Latin, Syro-Malabar, Byzantine, Malachite, Ukrainian, etc.).
The Illinois Catholic Prayer Breakfast hopes to contribute to the renewal, growth and development of a New Springtime of the Faith here in Illinois.
